Visual Aid changes the colour the builder draws behind your sheet. It exists because some problems are invisible against the default background: a white halo around a cut-out logo disappears on a light background, and dark artwork disappears on a dark one. Switching the colour makes them obvious.
It is a viewing aid. The colour you pick is never part of the printed file.
Change the Background Colour
- Open the builder's settings — the Settings tab in the tool rail, or the gear icon labelled Settings in the toolbar above the canvas.
- Find the Visual Aid row.
- Click one of the three swatches: the checkerboard pattern (the default, meaning no colour), grey, or black.
- For anything else, click the fourth swatch to open a colour picker and choose or type a colour.
The change applies immediately and the sheet redraws behind your artwork.
What to Use It For
Work through two settings rather than one. Put a dark colour behind the sheet to expose white edges and leftover backgrounds on cut-out artwork, then a light one to check dark artwork and thin black linework. Anything that vanishes at either setting is worth a closer look before you order.
The checkerboard is not a colour — it is how the builder shows that there is nothing behind your artwork. If part of your design shows checkerboard through it, that area is transparent and will print as bare film.
