Upscale Quality re-renders an uploaded design at a higher pixel count, targeting 300 DPI at the size you are printing it. Use it when the Resolution figure in the panel is lower than you want and you have no better copy of the file.
Turn It On
- Upload your design into the Upload by Size window.
- Switch on Upscale Quality in the panel on the right.
- Wait for the preview to reload. The design is sent away, enlarged, and returned.
- Check the Resolution figure under the panel, and zoom the preview with the expand button in its top corner to judge the detail.
Upscaling raises the pixel count. It cannot invent detail that was never captured, so a small photograph still looks like a small photograph, just less blocky. A higher-resolution original always beats an upscaled one.
What It Changes
Turning the toggle on tells the builder to work out how many pixels your printed size needs at 300 DPI, and to request the design back at that pixel count. The Resolution figure under the panel is recalculated from the file that comes back, so it rises to reflect the new version.
Upscaling also crops the design to its visible edges, which changes its proportions. Turn it on before you set Width and Height, and check those fields afterwards.
When the Toggle Is Missing
Upscale Quality does not appear at all in these cases.
- The design is a vector file. SVG uploads, and the PDF, AI, and EPS files that are converted to vector on upload, print cleanly at any size and have nothing to upscale.
- The design is larger than 8192 pixels on either side.
- The design came from the Gallery tab.
- Your printer has switched the tool off for their store.
Review the upscaled preview before you add the design to the cart. Upscaling is applied to the file your printer receives, so what you approve here is what goes on the sheet.
