The size you type in the Upload by Size window is the size the design prints at. Nothing is scaled later, so these two numbers decide both the finished artwork and what you pay for it.
Set the Width and Height
- Type the printed width into Width, in the unit shown in the field label. Your printer sets the unit, so it may be inches, centimetres, or millimetres.
- Type the printed height into Height. With Keep Aspect Ratio on, this fills in for you as soon as you set the width.
- Watch the Resolution figure under the panel as you change the numbers. It is the effective print quality at the size you just typed, so it falls as the design gets bigger.
Each field accepts values from 0.5 upward, in steps of 0.5, and the window prints the ceiling below it as "Max is". That ceiling is the printable width and height of your printer's sheet, so a value above it is pulled back down and the window explains why in a red message.
Entering a width that would push the height past its maximum, or the other way round, makes the window reduce both numbers together so the design still fits. The proportions are kept.
Keep or Break the Proportions
The Keep Aspect Ratio toggle shows the design's current ratio next to it, and it is on when a design loads.
- Leave it on to scale the design evenly. Setting either dimension recalculates the other one.
- Turn it off to set width and height independently. This stretches or squashes the design, which is occasionally what you want and more often not.
If a design looks stretched in the preview, turn Keep Aspect Ratio back on and retype the width. The height is recalculated from the original proportions, which undoes the distortion.
Turning on Remove Background or Upscale Quality crops the artwork to its visible edges, so the ratio and the numbers in Width and Height can change afterwards. Set those toggles first, then set the size.
Use a Preset Size
Some printers publish named preset sizes, such as adult and youth sizes. If yours has, a row of buttons appears above the dimension fields with Custom at the start.
- Click a preset button. The design resizes to that preset and the other dimension is worked out from the design's proportions.
- Click Custom to go back to typing your own numbers.
While a preset is selected, Width and Height are greyed out and the Keep Aspect Ratio toggle is hidden. That is the fastest way to keep a batch of designs consistent.
A preset sets one side only. Your printer decides whether that side is the width or the longest side of the design, so the same preset can apply to the height of a tall design.
