Out-of-Stock and Inventory Behavior

Quantity breaks encourage shoppers to buy several units at once — but what happens when stock is limited? Drip Discounts is inventory-aware so it doesn't push shoppers toward a quantity you can't fulfill. This article explains that behavior.

How Inventory Affects Tiers

  • The deal bar reads each variant's inventory status from your store.
  • When a product tracks inventory and stock is limited, tiers that would exceed available stock are handled gracefully rather than letting a shopper over-order.
  • This keeps the offer honest and avoids failed or oversold carts.
  • The Out-of-Stock Message

  • When a shopper's desired bundle exceeds what's available, Drip Discounts shows a message asking them to choose a smaller bundle.
  • The default message reads along the lines of: "We currently have limited stock, so please choose a smaller bundle."
  • This gently steers the shopper to a fulfillable quantity instead of blocking them outright.
  • Products That Don't Track Inventory

  • If a product isn't set to track inventory, or its policy allows overselling, the deal bar won't restrict quantities on stock grounds.
  • In that case all tiers remain fully selectable.
  • What to Check if Behavior Looks Off

  • Confirm the product's inventory tracking and inventory policy are set as you expect in Shopify.
  • Verify the variant's stock level is accurate.
  • Remember that variants with different stock levels can behave differently within the same product.
  • Localized Messaging

  • The out-of-stock message supports translation, so it can display in your storefront's language.
  • Preview the product page in your store's language to confirm the wording reads naturally.
  • Testing

Set a product's stock to a low number in a test scenario, then try to select a bundle larger than the available quantity. Confirm the out-of-stock message appears and that a smaller, fulfillable tier still works as expected.
