By default, Drip Surveys keeps your data clean by allowing just one response per order. This article explains how that works and how to change it if you'd rather let shoppers submit more than once.
Default behavior: one response per order
Out of the box, each order can submit a single survey response. When a shopper returns to the thank-you page or order status page after already answering, Drip Surveys detects the existing response and hides the survey — so you won't collect duplicates from the same order.
Allow repeat submissions
If you want to let an order submit multiple times, enable the repeat-submissions option:
- Open Drip Surveys in your Shopify admin.
- Go to General settings and find the Settings card.
- Tick Allow repeated submit.
- Save your configuration.
With this on, Drip Surveys stops checking for an existing response, so the survey stays available and additional submissions are accepted.
How the check works
There are two separate checks, and both are skipped when Allow repeated submit is on.
- Before the survey renders, the storefront asks the app whether that order already has a response. If it does, the form is never shown.
- When a response is submitted, the server checks again. A duplicate is rejected with a
Response already existserror.
With Allow repeated submit on, the first check always reports no existing response and the second check is not run, so every submission is stored — including a shopper who simply refreshes the thank-you page and answers again.
Good to know
- Leaving repeat submissions off is the best choice for most stores — it keeps your reporting accurate and prevents accidental double answers.
- Turning it on can be useful during testing. Be aware it accepts duplicates from an ordinary page refresh, not just deliberate re-answers.
- Duplicate prevention is tied to the order, so different orders always get their own chance to respond.
If you're testing and want to resubmit for the same order, temporarily enable repeat submissions, then turn it back off when you're done.
