The Export button on the Responses page downloads your responses as a spreadsheet file. There are two things to know before you use it: the export is limited to the date range currently showing on the page, and XLSX files download with the wrong file extension.
Export your responses
- Open Drip Surveys in your Shopify admin and go to Responses.
- Set the date range first using the date picker. The export uses whatever range is selected there.
- Click Export.
- Choose CSV or XLSX from the menu.
- The file downloads straight away.
Important: the date range scopes the export
the Responses page opens showing the last 7 days, and the export silently inherits that range. If you click Export without touching the date picker, you get 7 days of data, not everything. Always widen the date range before exporting if you want your full history.
The range is inclusive at both ends — the "from" date starts at 00:00:00 and the "to" date runs to 23:59:59, so responses at the edges of the window are included.
Known issue: XLSX files download as .csv
The file is always named surveys-<format>-<from>-<to>.csv, even when you picked XLSX. The contents are a genuine Excel workbook; only the extension is wrong.
- An XLSX export lands as, for example,
surveys-xlsx-2026-09-01-2026-09-16.csv. - Opening it in Excel may show a warning that the file format does not match the extension.
- Rename the file to end in
.xlsxand it opens normally.
If you do not need Excel formatting, choosing CSV avoids the problem entirely, since a CSV export is correctly named.
What is in the file
The export has one row per answer, not per response. A shopper who answers a three-question survey produces three rows, all sharing the same order number, name, email and timestamp.
The columns are:
- Order number
- Customer name
- Customer email
- Date — in
Y-m-d H:i:sformat - Question
- Answer
because there is one row per answer, a pivot table on the Question and Answer columns is the fastest way to tally up how shoppers answered a particular question.
Good to know
- Exports read the same stored responses you see on the Responses page, so the file always matches the list above it.
- Some rows may show a raw order identifier instead of a friendly
#1001order number. See the viewing-responses article for why. - Run an export periodically to keep an offline copy of your feedback.
