Creating a Custom Decoration Method

If your shop offers a technique that isn't one of the seven built-ins — think laser engraving, rhinestone, or a specialty transfer — you can add it as a custom decoration method. Custom methods work alongside the built-ins and appear in the same method pickers, pricing, and workflows.

Add a new method

  • Go to Settings → Decoration Methods.
  • Create a new method and give it a clear name (for example, "Laser Engraving").
  • Save it. The method becomes available to configure and, once active, to use on products and in the Design Studio.
  • Configure the essentials

Open your new method to set it up fully:

  • Add an optional description so staff know when to use it.
  • Choose how it prices — by area (square inches), by color count, by stitch count, or a flat fee. This choice determines which pricing controls appear.
  • Set the method-specific constraints it enforces, such as maximum colors or maximum print width.
  • Choosing the correct pricing dimension up front is important — it decides which column of the pricing structure a design is measured against.

    Make it usable

    • Mark the method active so it shows in pickers.
    • Set its sort order to control where it appears in lists.
    • Configure its pricing tiers (covered in the pricing article) and its status workflow (covered in the workflow article).

    Tips

    • Name custom methods the way your team and customers refer to them.
    • Pick the pricing dimension that matches how you actually charge (per stone, per color, per area, or flat).
    • Set realistic constraints so the Design Studio can warn customers before an unprintable file reaches production.
    • Deactivate a method instead of deleting it if you might offer it again later.
